#8 Because of reason #8… you will have to make up the lyrics!

This is blog #8 of our 10 reasons blog campaign! As we promised 1 blog per day for the next 10 days, each giving one reason why people should get involved with Oxjam, from Lindsey and Ewan’s point of view.

So number 8 blog on the 10 blogs, 10 reasons, 10 songs, 10 days…only 2 to go after this one!

Reason #8 It’s all about creativity!

Being part of an Oxjam event is all about creativity.  Creativity is key to providing any unique, outstanding and unforgettable event, and this’s what all Oxjam event organisers aim to do.

Have you ever thought about running your own gig, charity fundraiser, big party, wee festival, market or other interesting event?

Yes?

Then Oxjam is the perfect opportunity for you!  Get involved by running your own event and putting your ideas into action! Or, if you would like some experience first, get in contact with your local event organiser and help out at their event! If you help the team before the event, you might even see your ideas being used!

No?

If you haven’t thought about running your own event but are now thinking of ideas!  Then see what Oxjam events are being planned in your area and get involved!

#6 Like all good things on you we depend

This is blog #6 of our 10 reasons blog campaign! As we promised 1 blog per day for the next 10 days, each giving one reason why people should get involved with Oxjam, from Lindsey and Ewan’s point of view.

Reason #6 It’s all about friends helping out friends

Oxjam event organisers are people like you and me.  They are music lovers trying to use their passion for their local music scene to raise money and awareness for Oxfam. They are your friends, your friend’s friends, your friend’s friend’s friends… Helping out for Oxjam is helping out a friend.

So what can you do to help?

Well, all Oxjammers need people to do certain things before the event: Talk to your friends – tell everyone and your granny about Oxjam and the events your friends are planning; Ask them to like the Facebook pages! (Yes, my granny is on Facebook) Also, help by reposting blogs and sharing Oxjam content with your friends.  Recommending the best local music and other performers to the Oxjam organisers.  If you want to do more you can try volunteering for the street team, writing a blog, attending any fundraisers or telling your friends.

At the main event most Oxjammers need friends for the cash/ticket desk, for the cloakroom, for facilities and friends with musical talent, just to name a few!

What do you do if you don’t have the time to volunteer?

Buying a ticket for an Oxjam event is still helping out a friend.

What do you do if there are no Oxjam events in your area that you like?

If you get involved earlier enough your ideas will be heard by the organisers, who will be listening to people like you who can make the event even bigger and better!

You could always recommend the bands that you like, and then buy a ticket for the gig!

Or even run your own event?

Our event Oxjam We’re Skint, They’re Skinter has been created on the input from friends so far.  We’ve grown our initial 3 bands and 2 DJs into a 14 hours event, running during the day and into the wee small hours of the night.  Our name was chosen by friends. Our comedy, face painting and stalls are all suggestions from friends. We’re doing this to raise money for Oxfam and provide a cracking event for friends, for friend’s friends, for friend’s friend’s friends…

Local music, global impact.

#4 All I want is something good

This is blog #4 of our 10 reasons blog campaign! As we promised 1 blog per day for the next 10 days, each giving one reason why people should get involved with Oxjam, from Lindsey and Ewan’s point of view.

Reason #4 It’s all about the experience!

Whether you help out or attend an Oxjam event it’s all about the experience. When you help out at an Oxjam event you are gaining valuable experience in the music industry.  That’s something good.  When you attend an Oxjam event you will have a great experience watching some of the best local talent.  That’s something good.

By volunteering at an Oxjam event you will gain experience in working behind the scenes and can then use this experience elsewhere, like running your own event.  That’s something good.  Industry experts say that people who have volunteered to help run events for Oxjam are strong candidates for paid positions, so volunteering can help open the door to a career in the industry too!  That’s something good.

By attending an Oxjam event you will be part of something unique. An event arranged by volunteers, supported by local artists and attended by local people.  That’s something good.  There will be hundreds of events all over the UK making Oxjam the biggest music festival in the UK.  All proceeds go to Oxfam.  That’s something good.

Local music, global impact.

Our event, Oxjam We’re Skint, They’re Skinter, will be a very unique experience.  Keep up to date with what’s happening on Facebook or Twitter. Volunteer and help us raise £2000.  Thanks!
